Natural Ant Repellant

AntsEver wondered how to keep ants out of your kitchen and pantry without using poisons? Head straight for your spice rack and get some ground cloves, which are a great ant repellant. Sprinkle some of the powder along the ant trail. In places where the ants keep congregating, leave a small amount of clove powder in an open container. Replace when the smell starts to fade or ants come back. It works like a charm, is cheap, and is non-toxic, which is just perfect for an area used for food preparation and storage. For this purpose, use small open jars or chinese teacups – one in each drawer in the kitchen, and on cupboard shelves where ants have been spotted. Other known ant repellants are hot chilli powder, ground cinnamon and ground pepper, but I’ve had the best luck with ground cloves.

Best ant repellant so far in my experience: dry borax mixed with a little sugar. The ants have fled!

And borax is the ONLY solution I use these days to banish mold from walls. Chlorine bleach only sends the mold underground for a few weeks, then to return with a vengeance, but borax, mixed well into warm water and rubbed on the walls, works like a dream. Drawback: not easily available where I live, so I import it. No customs officials have yet questioned the unlabelled white powder in my luggage, thank goodness!

🙂 Yes, I wish Borax was available where I live – must remember to bring some back next time I travel abroad….however, be aware that Borax is toxic, so use with caution in the kitchen.
